Taking the road less traveled
Sugar Unit
Satish Sugars Ltd. was started as a Khandasari unit in 2000-01 with an initial capacity of 100 TCD. In 2004-05, based on factors such as financial feasibility, operational efficiency and higher return on investment, Vacuum Pan Technology was adopted. The processing capacity of the upgraded plant was 1250 TCD (tonnes crushed per day).
In 2006, the capacity of the plant was upgraded to 4000 TCD and an industry benchmark was created for capacity expansion in the shortest time. The processing capacity of the plant was further increased to 7500 TCD and 10000 TCD in the fiscal year 2009-10 and 2012-13, respectively.
Now, SSL has embarked on the mission of growing sugarcane in more than 10,000 acres of land and making the produce available to the plant during the
crushing season in 2017-18. Sugarcane seedlings and fertilizers have been distributed to farmers who supply their produce to the company. Plans are also on the anvil to bring an additional 10,000 acres of land under sugarcane cultivation. SSL has received help from SDF for its sugarcane development activities.
SSL has been striving to increase sugarcane production in its command area by organizing several programmes such as sponsoring farmers of the region to participate in workshops and seminars on improved methods of sugarcane cultivation organized at state and national levels. Through these activities, SSL aims to create more awareness among farmers about sugarcane cultivation.
Free training programmes are also being organized to create awareness about scientific agriculture in children. The objective is to create interest in children to take up agriculture as an occupation and implement scientific methods of cultivation when they grow up.
Sugarcane cultivation apart, to identify and encourage special talent in children, educational, cultural and sports competitions are organized regularly by SSL. This way, SSL has taken a distinct route in several areas.
Focus on quality
At SSL, we lay a strong emphasis on quality right from the stage of cultivation of sugarcane crop to manufacturing of sugar. Emphasis is given to maintain high standards and ensure that mistakes occurring at every level of operations are not repeated.
Distillery Unit
The distillery unit, an ambitious project of the company, was commissioned and implemented in a record time. The project was flagged off on July 20, 2007 with a ground breaking ceremony and completed on January 20, 2008.
At this 60 KLPD plant, SSL manufactures excellent quality ENA and ethanol. Plans are afoot to increase the unit capacity to 120 KLPD in the coming years.
Cogeneration Unit
SSL runs a 31 MW cogeneration unit to contribute its mite to redress the power situation in Karnataka. The electricity generated at the plant is sold to HESCOM.
